For over a decade, Modern Work Conference has brought together architects, consultants, developers, administrators, business leaders, and technology professionals to share real-world experiences, practical solutions, and emerging innovations across the Microsoft ecosystem.
How it Started
The story of Modern Work Conference did not begin with a conference.
It began with conversations:
In the early years of Microsoft's cloud transformation, many practitioners regularly met at events such as the European SharePoint Conference (ESPC). Architects, consultants, administrators, developers and technology professionals gathered to discuss the emerging technologies that were reshaping how organisations collaborated and worked.
What started as informal discussions gradually led to a simple idea:
Why limit those conversations to a single annual conference?
From those conversations emerged a growing network of practitioner-focused events.
The aOS Era
One of the earliest identities associated with this network was aOS, representing Azure, Office 365 and SharePoint. At the time, those technologies formed the centre of Microsoft's workplace platform and reflected many of the subject’s practitioners were discussing most actively.
As Microsoft's platform evolved, the community evolved alongside it.
The aMS Era
When Office 365 became Microsoft 365, the conference identity evolved from aOS to aMS. The change reflected Microsoft's transition from a collection of cloud services into a broader platform spanning productivity, collaboration, identity, governance, and security.
The aMP Era
The next major shift came with the emergence of Power Platform.
While SharePoint remained an important foundation, increasing attention was being directed towards automation, workflow, low-code development and business process improvement. Organisations were looking for ways not only to manage information, but also to streamline operations and empower users to build solutions themselves.
To reflect this shift, the conference evolved once again, becoming aMP: Azure, Microsoft 365 and Power Platform.
The names changed, but the purpose remained remarkably consistent.
Across different countries and cities, practitioners continued gathering to discuss adoption, governance, security, migration, collaboration, automation and the practical realities of working with Microsoft's technologies. The current Kuala Lumpur community traces its roots to this wider aOS, aMS and aMP lineage, which included events and communities across Europe and Asia.
The Modern Work Era
Over time, the conversation expanded again.
Artificial intelligence, security, collaboration, automation and workplace productivity were no longer separate discussions. Organisations increasingly needed to understand how these disciplines worked together.
The term Modern Work emerged as the most appropriate description for this broader landscape.
It was no longer a discussion about individual products.
It had become a discussion about how people work.
Modern Work Conference Today
Today, the Modern Work Conference continues the lineage of aOS, aMS and aMP while reflecting the realities of a changing technology landscape. Topics now span Microsoft 365, Security, Copilot, AI, Power Platform and the technologies that shape the modern workplace.
Through every name change, one thing has remained constant:
